Posted in: UncategorizedWith only a few weeks until we select a new Commander in Chief 7-11 is at it again. In a great example of viral marketing meeting social media. Every time you purchase a cup of coffee at 7-11 you can select from a blue Obama cup or a red McCain cup. The genius lies in the fact that the cup becomes both a status item. a destination driver and discussion spark. Kudos to 7-11 for continuing a simple and smart program.
Oh, by the way. The folks at their headquarters claim to have called the last two elections correctly. lets see what happens.
“The Week in Advertising”
Posted in: UncategorizedSuperSpy and I were sitting around one afternoon, having a drinkypoo when out of nowhere she (who always wears a mask in my presence) says, “We should totally make a video.”
So we did. Here’s the first episode. We’d like to do more of these in the future, at least as long as it continues to be fun. Let me stress that our only goal was to do something we hadn’t done before. Mission accomplished. Please forgive us. Please.
WARNING: We talk about this week’s episode of MadMen at the end. Viewers beware!

Posted in: UncategorizedCommunicating with unborn babies can be done in different ways and investing largely in prenatal solutions such as this one offered by Baby Bee Bright Corp. is bound to lure in many mothers who want to educate their future child in advance.
Music can be easily listened to but the manner of how to allow your unborn baby to digest and adapt to it is another. These specialized tunes which can be downloaded to your iPod or MP3 player via their website is indeed a wiser way to distribute tunes that is being sought by expectant mothers today.
Along with the purchase of the communication system, mom will receive a code allowing her to download the five hour Baby Bee Bright Prenatal Library. This library will be available in several languages. It will vastly expand our market. The new marketing direction not only adds millions of potential customers, it will lower the selling price of the system, and increase our profit margin.”

Milk Powder Will Never Be The Same Again
Posted in: UncategorizedThe melamine scare has been traced to be present in powdered substances such as powdered milk. If you haven’t seen it yet, melamine is really hard to identify unless you use laboratory equipment to dissect the contents. In short, all milk powder today need the certification of local food authorities to clear their name, especially if the product comes from China.
So with that in mind, the demand for milk powder products has obviously declined. The melamine scare has been dying down and concentrated on Chinese products. While the China made consumer goods are obviously being shelved, the awareness for other products that may have outsourced from China continues. Will these milk products ever get the nod of consumer confidence again?
Melamine, a substance illicitly added to watered-down milk to artificially boost its protein count, has led to the deaths of at least three babies; at least 53,000 other children have fallen ill.

Skinny is Sensational for Marketing
Posted in: UncategorizedObserve the ads you see regardless if it is in print or television. You will notice that they are well fit and normally the overweight and the skinny ones will be counted out. Not quite so.
Depending on the product being endorsed, we see a handful of talent that are used in particular commercials. Skinny models for instance are still a much sought after preference, especially if you talk about clothing and health endorsements. While many point to their faces as benchmarks, it is apparent that depending on the projection and how they fit into the product presentation and projection will their real beauty be truly unleashed.
“In essence, women expect to see beautiful women in ads, even if it makes them feel worse about themselves,” says Jeremy Kees, a business professor at Villanova University in Pennsylvania.

Wieden Will Open School in London
Posted in: Uncategorized
Last week, myself and four other University of Oregon advertising students accompanied our adviser and chief evangelist Deb Morrison up to Portland for a special meeting with some folks from Wieden & Kennedy, London. Since Portland is the home of W&K, they were obviously in town for several reasons. One of those reasons though was to pick our brains. It turns out that over in London, W&K is innovating beyond just advertising.

LONDON (AdAge.com) — Martin Sorrell's long-running legal standoff with the former director of WPP Italy has finally come to an end. The WPP Group chief executive and Marco Benatti today agreed to an out-of-court settlement over the latest and final installment of their multi-lawsuit feud — a London High Court dispute concerning the $30 million sale of the Italian company Media Club to WPP Group in 2002.
