Behind Obama’s Campaign Logo
Posted in: UncategorizedAn article from last February in Chicago Business News with some details about Obama’s campaign logo, created by Sender: “Sender LLC landed the logo project through mo/de, a Chicago design firm working with AKP Message & Media of Chicago. Political consultant David Axelrod, who is working on Obama’s campaign and worked on his 2004 U.S. Senate campaign, is a partner with AKP Message & Media.”
Also, check out Logobama , a fan site where you can create your very own version of the logo. Here’s also a DIY tutorial .
Widely praised, but not without it’s share of controversy, of course: “Kind of amusing that Barack Hussein Obama’s campaign logo can be seen to feature both a crescent and a curved Islamic scimitar:”

AgencySpy Causing Trouble; Following Our Birthright
Posted in: UncategorizedI was talking with two of our spies over the weekend about the impact AgencySpy has inside agencies, specifically on the matter of internal secrets. Both spies were from different prominent agencies that have been the subject of posts here on AgencySpy. The spy who worked for a WPP agency said there had been a meeting during which employees were told not to talk to me, and managers did a lot to assure them that things were indeed OK.
The other spy, from a smaller shop, told me that just a few hours after I posted an article about said company, the CEO had posted an article on the agency’s internal-eyes-only blog, essentially rebuking what had been written. Funny that their PR department hadn’t done the same when I contacted them.
Nonetheless, with your help, AgencySpy’s infamy continues to grow, which we feel pretty darn good about. So keep e-mailing us tips at matt@mediabistro dot com, tweeting/IMing us at AgencySpy and of course using the anonymous tips box. Cheers!

Posted in: UncategorizedRetail Sales Fell Further in September
Posted in: UncategorizedNEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Retailers today reported grim September sales figures, while doing their best to temper expectations for the coming months. Across channels, companies saw precipitous sales declines at stores open at least a year. That led many to either lower expectations for the third quarter or note that results would be at the low end of their guidance.

Perceived Ripoffs or Convenient Doppelgangers?
Posted in: UncategorizedWe found the above ad in this month’s Road & Track, which mysteriously started showing up in our mailbox a few weeks ago. Ever-hungry to see how vehicle marketing has changed given fuel prices, we paged through it — and were shocked to see the copy, “…doesn’t guzzle, but rather sips politely” on the ad you see above.
What? Did some copywriter not realize that he/she was piggybacking on Mini’s “Let’s Sip, Not Guzzle”??? If MG ran a campaign in 1962 that showed a picture of their “Midget” model, and ran the word “Poopy.” beneath it; well you get the picture. The point is, Mini’s been “sipping” since like 2002. This sucks, thanks for ruining my day.
Check out which car company was associated with the hacked copy, after the jump.
