Posted in: UncategorizedViral Marketing Via Text Messages
Posted in: UncategorizedText messaging is known to be a good medium to advertise although there are similarities as far as comparing them with spam mails. While spam mail has the proper sources to categorize and pick out spam, text messaging seems to do better. While most of these spam messages come from sign-ups with groups and companies, the matter of the “Stop Receiving Alerts” needs to be improved.
These days, it is obvious that not all people are keen on getting unwanted text messages, something referred to as a form of viral marketing since it can spread and continue to be passed to other people through mobile phones. Unwanted as it may, a better way to control and perhaps respect the privacy of some people should be developed for the sake of privacy and of course professional advertising and marketing strategies being wooed today.
“It is very annoying to be receiving spam text messages on my cell phone. I never asked for them nor want them,” Mahan said. Mahan gets 250 free text messages a month on her cell phone plan. With only a couple of messages from Domino’s she’s not paying extra, but Mahan is afraid if more companies start marketing this way she will get stuck with a higher bill.
“I’ve been a customer of (Domino’s) forever,” Mahan said. She lives in south Fort Myers and has been receiving pizza from a Domino’s on College Parkway for years. “But if this is their way of advertising, I don’t know if I want to be a customer. It’s put a bad taste in my mouth, no pun intended.”
“The last thing we want to do is send text messages to people who don’t want them,” said Rob Weisberg, vice president of marketing for Domino’s. “It hurts us and our brand and costs us money.”
He conceded, however, that text messaging was an “intrusive medium,” but added that “There is a segment of the population that prefers to be communicated to via that channel.”
Domino’s text-message marketing campaign has exploded, Weisberg said. More than 1 million people have already signed up to receive text-message offers and about 40,000 more sign up weekly.
