Posted in: UncategorizedFreecreditreport Taps Ed McMahon for “Rap” Ad
Posted in: UncategorizedCelebrity or famous personality endorsement is not surprising anymore these days. For people like Ed McMahon, it isn’t really a surprise to see him helping out companies establish exposure and attention. What is really surprising that may further appeal to fans is to see Ed McMahon rapping. Yup, you read it right, it has been reported that Freecreditreport.com has signed up Ed McMahon to do a commercial rap about his financial woes.
The ad seems to be fitting as we are all now in a fiscal crisis. This is a light moment that can perhaps ease the burden of wondering what the future holds for us in the economic aspect of things.
According to the Associated Press, McMahon will wear a tracksuit in the commercial and rap about his very public financial troubles. Oh, and he’s supposed to be chauffeured by a golf cart in the videos.

Posted in: UncategorizedVintage airline ads take sexism to the skies
Posted in: UncategorizedWith so much talk of sexism this year, it can be heartening to look back and see how far we’ve progressed as a nation. I’d recommend starting with Travel + Leisure‘s collection of 10 funny vintage airline commercials. There’s the song-and-dance number about why a businessman should bring his “little cutie” along when he flies United. Then there’s the striptease from Braniff International, which believed that “even an airline hostess should look like a girl.” Or check out the National Airlines “Go Go Miami” spot, which I admit isn’t really sexist so much as it is just plain baffling. Hat tip to Adverganza.

Posted in: UncategorizedSeth Godin Is A Man of Action
Posted in: UncategorizedIf you want to become popular enough to have your own action figure, take a clue from Seth Godin.
According to BusinessWeek, the man is “hyperkinetic.”
Given all the business writers competing for attention, how did Seth Godin reach the top tier? How, in the lingo of his new book, has he become the leader of such a large tribe? Was it through remarkable ideas. Or has he just been remarkably good at self-promotion?
Godin, 48, works in a light-filled, loft-style office in Irvington, N.Y., 20 miles north of Manhattan. Wall-to-wall windows facing the Hudson River offer a calming view. But Godin himself is hyperkinetic—his mind spins through 70 RSS feeds and 300 e-mail replies a day. He posts once or twice daily to his blog and reads five books a week. In 2001 he wrote Unleashing the Ideavirus in five days. “I clearly have ADHD,” he says. “Lucky for me the world kind of organized around me rather than the other way around. It’s such an asset.”
Diesel’s So Dirty!
Posted in: UncategorizedYou be the judge. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Diesel will be hosting “Dirty Thirty Parties” in 17 cities worldwide. Love that idea of global partying. The spot features some your Dad’s favorite porn stars from the 70s, remixed and animated. Diesel are so clever… editors that is.
The link to this video was sent to us via the tip box as a “good viral.” Look, people. Can we please stop bastardizing the term viral? Videos are not necessarily virals. Maybe they’re wanna-bes, but if it hasn’t been passed on and on, email to email, text to mouth, viewed a whopping amount times online – it’s just a video released by a brand. And, in our eyes, it’s not a great viral unless it creates its own meme (see: Two Girls One Cup or Ray-Ban’s, sunglass virals).
Clients love the term: “Joe, lets be maverick and reach out to the community on the interweb. Lets make a viral to go with this campaign!” But, we, the advertising community, know better. Just because you make a video and throw it up on YouTube, does not make it a viral. Repeat: does not make it viral.
This is a video party invitation that’s pretty fun. Will it grow to be a viral? It’s got a good shot, but it ain’t one yet.
UPDATE: We have a winner! Diesel has slid from video to viral. Creativity was kind enough to share their hit numbers. Nielsen’s buzz meter is busting, as well.

Posted in: UncategorizedAre You Well Suited for Account Management?
Posted in: UncategorizedAdweek listened to Anomaly co-founder Carl Johnson, speak at an account management panel in midtown Manhattan yesterday.
He argued that being a “suit” is the best job in the business.
Johnson cited the “all-access pass” nature of working in account management, the breadth and variety of tasks associated with the role and the “sheer unexpectedness” or unpredictability of it all. “It’s the agency’s only white-knuckle ride,” he said.
But the job’s virtues are also its challenges and you have to love being a suit to do it well, according to Johnson.
“The problem is, it’s a damn difficult job,” said Johnson. “You have to love it because it’s painful, it’s difficult, you get a ton of abuse, you work hard.”
