W+K ECD Tony Davidson’s book “One-Track Mind” has hit store shelves this week. Apparently, Tony has spent years taking photos of things that remind him of breasts. When I say years, I mean TEN. Ten years of breast imagery from pancakes to traffic cones. Perhaps Tony and David Duchovny should have a little chat?

Tips On How Not To Launch Your Agency

goat.jpg

It must be incredibly hard to launch an advertising agency. The cost. Getting the clients. The competitors, etc. However, that is no excuse for the sci-fi angled approach of New Zealand’s latest shop, Running With Scissors. Now, I know that New Zealand agencies are a bit off center, but come on. Go to the website and just let it play. Please, please, because I couldn’t possibly explain the men in cloaks, the replicant, the goat in all their glory.

Let me just say that there are a few things one should NOT do when launching an advertising agency:

1. Don’t let your love of Babylon 5 seep over into your website’s
concept.

2. Don’t proclaim that your agency is seminal, before you actually
prove it.

3. Don’t dress the owners in gold jump suits.

4. Don’t say that you created solutions based advertising. You
didn’t.

The website is all in good fun and maybe the kids down under will totes love it. As a blogger on the other side of the world? I’m just agog and aghast.

FiveAlive Site Reminds us of That Time We Ate Mushrooms

wp_146.jpg

We’re so damn sick of Web sites that waste our time with kitchy little games like “dodge the fruit” and a “break dancing with robot.” Someone sent us a link to this FiveAlive page called SuperCrazyAlive.

Apparently, Leo Burnett is behind it. We, on the other hand, are wholeheartedly against it (and most other sites like it). The reason? It’s completely pointless. And pointless is not OK. There are sites that do UX much better, such as T3’s Script Your Trip and Virtual Office, and another of my favs, YearbookYourself.

More after the jump.

John C Jay Is A Real Baller

small_johnjay.jpg

Portland get your forks and knives ready! Almost legendary W+K branding man, John C. Jay has gone into the restaurant business. Jay and his wife Janet along with restaurateur Andy Ricker will open the restaurant, called Ping, in winter 2008-2009.

It will be a “cross between a izakaya (Japanese pub) and a Southeast Asian cafe and coffeehouse” located at the bottom floor of the Hung Far Low Building. Jay will design the space.

You see – Jay is on a mission to single handely revamp Portland’s Chinatown. Dude is a baller. Here’s here there and taking over a part of the city. Sexy. Portland mayor-elect Sam Adams said:

“Portland uber creative guy John C. Jay thinks Portland’s Old Town/Chinatown can be the North American hot spot for Asian contemporary culture and art, i.e. a modern Chinatown. To get a sense of what he was talking about, John suggested I check out Beijing’s 798 Art District.”

Adams actually blogged that from Beijing, so you know… Jay’s got some serious influence.
