John Maeda at #AADigital: ‘Let Designers Code’


Marketers should bring a designer into the process very early on so they stay on brand, John Maeda, Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers’ new design partner, said at the Ad Age Digital Conference on Wednesday.

Designers shouldn’t be considered a separate entity within a company, he said. “Don’t view business as an anathema to designers,” Mr. Maeda said. “Let designers code, and engineers design.”

Mr. Maeda, who was previously president at the Rhode Island School of Design and steered the MIT Media Lab before that, told us that even though his new job might seem like a total departure from what he did before, it’s more similar than you’d think.
