Ad man Donny Deutsch will star in a new comedy series on USA Network set to bow later this year.
USA has ordered six episodes of the half-hour comedy with the working title “Donny!”, which is described as a “Curb Your Enthusiasm”-style “soft scripted’ series giving actors freedom to ad lib. The new series will take a satirical look at the media, wealth and modern romance through the eyes of Mr. Deutch’s fictionalized character, which is based on the real-life ad man, USA said.
The show will focus on the “hyper-imagined real-life of Donny Deutsch,” Chris McCumber, president of USA Network, said in a statement. Mr. Deutsch will play a single dad hosting his own daytime talk show. On the talk show, his character has answers to everything and makes viewers swoon; off-camera, his character’s reality is very different. Each episode will find him appearing on his show as expert on an issue such as sexting, for example, while struggling in personal life with the same subject.
