DigitasLBi Hires BBDO Vet to Run North American Creative

ronald ngToday DigitiasLBi announced the hiring of Ronald Ng as its newest North American chief creative officer.

Ng is a veteran of the BBDO organization: he joined the agency’s Malaysia office in 2004, relocating to New York for an EVP/ECD role in 2009 and rising to the CCO level at BBDO & Proximity in Singapore three years ago. While leading Proximity, Ng served as head of the Asia Creative Council and won attention for such campaigns as “Two Worlds” for Jeep.

New Presidents at McCann Europe and DigitasLBi Boston-Detroit

This week McCann Worldwide announced two C-level changes: Pablo Walker, formerly President of McCann Worldgroup Latin America & Caribbean, will now hold the same title for McCann Worldgroup Europe. Replacing him will be Fernando Fascioli, CEO of McCann Chile.

Walker has been with McCann for more than two decades; in citing his track record, CEO Harris Diamond writes, “As we look to Europe, the need for clients across the region to reach diverse populations economically and culturally will increase.”

DigitasLBi announced the promotion of EVP/Chief Solutions Officer Norman de Greve to President, Boston-Detroit. He succeeds Barbara Goose, who left to accept the role of CMO at Altisource, a technology and services firm.

Here Are Tony Weisman’s Thoughts on Bjorkman’s Departure

lincolnbjorkman1As you may have heard this morn, Lincoln Bjorkman, who moved up to the big chair as CCO of Digitas North America three-and-a-half years ago, will join Wunderman effective Nov. 11 and report to Wunderman chairman and CEO Daniel Morel. In his new role, Bjorkman will oversee the creative efforts of 60 offices in 170 countries for clients including Coke, Shell, Land Rover, Microsoft, Nokia, and Dell among others. According to the Wunderman camp, Bjorkman is only the second global creative director in Wunderman’s history. London’s Steve Harrison first served in the role (2006-2007). Anyhow, the unicorn whisperer that is Tony Weisman, CEO of DigitasLBi North America, reflects for a bit on Bjorkman’s departure below:

“Lincoln Bjorkman shared with me that after ten remarkable years with us, he has decided to leave DigitasLBi for another agency. He will be with us for a couple of more weeks.

What to say, what to write.

When I look for writing inspiration, I often pull up Lincoln’s famous emails. Each shares a piece of news worth writing about. Each written with an artful dose of humor that brings smiles across our faces. Each frothy with authenticity and love for the subject. Each uniquely Lincoln.

I won’t talk about Lincoln’s credentials. They stand like skyscrapers on their own. And, anyone who knows Lincoln knows well that the very last thing he likes to do is praise himself. He much prefers giving the warm spotlight to others. Again, uniquely Lincoln.

Instead, I simply want to say thanks to our resident gentleman, soulful writer, exceptional creative talent, music lover, tireless perfectionist, rock star manager, artist, a tennis player with an awesome forehand, and champion of our formidable creative team that he helped build, nurture and grow. I want to thank Lincoln for making “the work, the work, the work” at the center of why we come to the office every day. I want to thank Lincoln for elevating our creative muscle earning us award-winning, record breaking  creative streaks.

Lincoln, you crushed it at DigitasLBi. We’re just sayin’.

Our very, very best to you.

Tony Weisman
CEO, North America”

Your Friday Image: Weisman, ‘Unicorn’ Usher in DigitasLBi Era

As you may recall, a few weeks ago, the Publicis Groupe agency now known as DigitasLBi unveiled a new logo complete with a unicorn (see Vine intro clip below). Despite a few folks scratching their heads about it, DigitasLBi apparently remains undeterred in celebrating their new magical, mystical mascot as you can see above. The image was posted on Facebook earlier this week and features DigitasLBi North America CEO Tony Weisman and, yes, a pony dolled up as a unicorn. You can just feel the enthusiasm though none more so than from the guy dressed like a conductor standing behind them. Where was our invite? Anyways, happy Friday!

Shetty Returns to Agency World, Takes CSO Role at Digitas

After a brief, nine-month spell as CEO of Newsweek/Daily Beast, Baba Shetty has rejoined the ad industry, assuming the role of chief strategy and media officer at what is now DigitasLBi. From what sources tell us, Shetty will officially assume his role in mid-August and will work out of the Boston office, reporting directly to Digitas North America CEO, Tony Weisman.

Prior to his most recent gig in the publishing world, Shetty spent seven years at fellow Boston-based agency Hill Holliday, where he last served as chief strategy officer and worked on accounts including Dunkin’ Donuts, Liberty Mutual and Bank of America. During his career, the returning ad exec also served as a managing director at Fallon and worked on the client side in marketing/comms at BMW early on.

Weisman Succeeds Kinsella as DigitasLBi NA CEO

We suppose it’s safe to call it DigitasLBi now as the agency folks behind the newly merged entity have announced that they’ve found a new North American CEO in Tony Weisman. The new chief exec takes over for his former boss, Colin Kinsella, who spent the last six years within the Publicis Groupe fold, the first three being at Razorfish and the last three serving as president then CEO of the North American region.

Last we recall, Weisman, a six-year Digitas vet himself (and one-time Super Tuesday contributor), was part of the agency’s “realignment” in summer 2010 that resulted in an expansion of his role beyond global client lead/president of the Chicago office to include Boston, Detroit and San Francisco as well. The new DigitasLBi North American CEO will remain in his native Chicago, though, and will report to newly installed DigitasLBi global CEO Luke Taylor, who offers these warm words in a statement:

“Tony blends client business understanding, marketing acumen and instinct. He brings altitude and aptitude to the client-agency relationship that inspires innovation and boldness, and ultimately growth. I am confident that Tony will take the reins of this incredible opportunity with the same infectious energy and foresight that have guided his career.”

Prior to Digitas, Weisman served as CMO at Draftfcb Chicago and spent nearly two decades prior at Leo Burnett.
