A judge’s decision on royalty rates the streaming-music service must pay to the licensing group, Ascap, appears to have split the issue down the middle.
Pandora is squaring off against Ascap in a closely watched trial over royalty payments determined by a system developed long before digital streams and smartphone apps.
In a blog post on Wednesday, Tim Westergren, the founder and public face of Pandora, said that a limit of 40 hours a month on mobile devices would take effect this week for its free service.
