Coming Home: LeBron James Climbs the Viral Video Chart (Again)


LeBron James is back in heavy ad rotation, on TV and online, as the new NBA season arrives and he returns to the Cleveland Cavaliers. A new campaign starring Mr. James from Beats by Dre topped any other non-movie brand campaign on the web in the week that ended Sunday, according to Visible Measures. Previous chart-topping LeBron brand videos include Samsung’s ad for the LeBron app last May, the Miami Heat’s Harlem Shake video last year and and a Nike clip upon his move to Miami in 2010. (Mr. James is also on TV right now in a new Sprite ad, a Creativity pick this week.)

Other hits on the latest Viral Video Chart include a new Air New Zealand in-flight safety video, again set in Middle Earth and this time starring Elijah Wood; Ikea’s “Shining” homage, timed to Halloween; and Exxon’s campaign encouraging young people to become engineers.
