Apple reveals news service with its usual ad ambivalence


Apple’s news and streaming TV event took the ads out of media, with a string of new subscription services that push advertising out of the picture. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be any ads for the magazine industry that is a major partner in Apple News.

On Monday, Apple revealed Apple News Plus and Apple TV Plus, both billed as premium media services that were different because they did not track consumers or sell their attention for ads.

“This is a different approach than others have taken,” says Tim Cook, Apple CEO, who was referencing rivals like Facebook and Google with businesses that depend on consumer data collection and advertising.
