Google is planning to open a store in SoHo after all.
Three years after attempting to dispose of space it had leased on Greene Street, the tech giant appears to be arranging instead to open an outpost at the location, Crain’s New York Business reports.
The 5,442-square-foot space could be Google’s first long-term retail location in the city. It has opened only pop-up stores here, including during the holiday season at 110 Fifth Ave. in the Flatiron District.
Papa John’s may soon go by the name Papa Johns, a minor grammatical tweak that says a lot about the state of the brand.
In what appear to be previously unreported filings regarding new wording and brand imagery, the company would keep the Papa John’s brand name but lose the apostrophe in the second word. The filings were submitted to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in late August.
Papa John’s International Inc., is eager to repair the image of the Papa John’s brand following the controversy stemming from founder John Schnatter’s racially charged comments. (A timeline of the controversy and its fallout is here.) While the company has distanced itself from Schnatterwho stepped down as chairman of the board in July, and whose image was swiftly removed from everything from ads to pizza boxesthe possessive brand name continues to suggest that the chain is owned by John himself. And, indeed, he remains its largest shareholder. Now, it appears Papa John’s will try to add a little more public distance by dropping that possessive usage from its logo.
The patron saint of Swedish Heavy Machinery is likely Jean-Claude Van Damme. The actor’s “Epic Split,” a 2014 gymnastic foray between two Volvo big rigs, is the standard bearer of demonstrating the precision of Swedish engineering–and the use of Enya’s music in advertising. The highly-awarded stunt, with a charming, entertaining follow up the next year,…

As streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime increasingly make off with the lion’s share of the Emmy Awards accolades, the TV industry’s annual celebration of itself continues to shed viewers.
According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, NBC’s live broadcast of the 70th Annual Emmy Awards delivered an historically diluted audience, averaging 10.2 million viewers, of whom approximately 3.1 million were members of the 18-to-49 demo that advertisers want most. Overall viewership was down 11 percent compared to last year’s Emmys, which aired in the show’s usual Sunday night spot opposite NBC’s “Sunday Night Football.”
While Monday night’s broadcast now stands as the all-time lowest-rated Emmys on record, the declines are in keeping with the diminishing returns posted by TV’s other high-end award shows. In January, CBS’s presentation of the 60th Grammy Awards plunged 24 percent to 19.8 million viewers, making it the least-watched Grammys in nine years. Two months later, ABC’s coverage of the 90th Annual Academy Awards slumped to an all-time low of 24.4 million viewers; as with the Grammys, this worked out to a loss of 24 percent of the year-ago audience.
Activision Blizzard’s recent stock gains may be a sign that the company’s new Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is ready to take on Fortnite in the fight for “battle royale” gamers.
Blackout, the newest style of play in the billion-dollar Call of Duty franchise, has impressed analysts in beta testing, and the YouTube trailer has more than 4 million views ahead of the game’s Oct. 12 release. The new mode “should be highly engaging and could later be monetized,” according to Goldman Sachs analyst Christopher Merwin.
Analysts expect further upside to Activision shares through the holiday shopping season. The stock has rebounded about 25 percent from its April lows after Fortnite’s popularity triggered a broad sell-off in video game stocks. The free game helped spark interest in the battle-royale mode, where 100 people play at once. Electronic Arts is also planning a battle-royale mode for its upcoming Battlefield V game, due to be released in November.
Facebook hasn’t been able to resolve a two-year-old lawsuit alleging that its platform enables race-based ad targeting and now faces new claims that it allows employers to tailor ads to illegally discriminate against women.
Lawyers with Outten & Golden who worked on a gender-bias complaint filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Tuesday are still in talks with the social networking giant to try to settle a 2016 lawsuit filed by the firm. It alleges that Facebook’s technology let advertisers target groups by race in violation of California civil rights laws.
A federal judge said in August that he would allow no more postponements beyond Tuesday after the 2016 case was put on hold months ago for mediation before he orders the litigation to proceed. Peter Romer-Friedman, an Outten & Golden attorney, said there’s no settlement and that mediation will continue in October.
The holiday shopping season is just two months away and retailers already appear to be betting on small business. Macy’s announced this week that it is teaming with Facebook to highlight lesser-known brands in its the Market @ Macy’s in-store concept shop. Launched earlier this year, the initiative serves as a brick-and-mortar pop-up space for emerging brands, which sell goods in the space for a month or more.
Beginning in November and running through January, Facebook will feature roughly 150 e-commerce brands in nine Macy’s stores, including New York, Pittsburgh, Las Vegas and San Francisco. The brands, which are Facebook advertisers, sell in categories such home goods, beauty and apparel. Businesses that have already signed on to the initiative include Love Your Melon, which is a hat company with a charity component, and Charleston Gourmet Burger Company.
“All over the world people are running businesses, big and small, that have inspiring stories and we want to help them succeed,” said Michelle Klein, director of North American marketing at Facebook, in a statement.
