Tesla asks for volunteers among its factory workers to help prove 'haters' wrong

Tesla is exhorting its factory workers to disprove the “haters” betting against the company and is letting a small number of volunteers join the effort to ramp up output of the crucial Model 3 line.

In a pair of internal memos last week, the heads of engineering and production spelled out measures to free up workers for the Model 3 line and challenged them to reach production goals. Doug Field, the engineering chief, told staff that if they can exceed 300 Model 3s a day, it would be an “incredible victory” at a time when short-sellers and critics are increasingly doubting the company’s ability to fulfill CEO Elon Musk’s vision of building a mass-production electric-vehicle manufacturer.

“I find that personally insulting, and you should too,” Field wrote in the March 23 email. “Let’s make them regret ever betting against us. You will prove a bunch of haters wrong.”

Facebook starts fact-checking political photos and videos

Facebook, seeking to calm escalating concerns about leaks of user data and election meddling on its social network, said it has started fact-checking photos and videos, part of an update of efforts to increase election security.

In a blog post, the company outlined its priorities for combating election meddling and initiatives to “protect and promote civic engagement on Facebook.” The four main areas the company is working on are combating foreign interference; removing fake accounts; increasing ad transparency; and reducing the spread of fake news, according to the post, which included a transcript of executives’ remarks to the press.

Some newer features the company highlighted include fact-checking photos and videos, in addition to verifying links, starting in France with Agence France-Presse and rolling out to other countries soon. The social network also said its planned public archive for election ads will be unveiled this summer. And in the news feed, political ads will get a special label and will list who paid for the spot.

Grey adds a question to every creative brief: How can this work reflect diversity?

From here on out, all Grey staffers who work on creative for a client must answer this question: How can we make the idea reflect and respect the world’s diversity?

The question is part of the WPP’s new program called “The Progress Brief,” which focuses on making sure all client work at the agency meets standards of respect for all people. Grey partnered with The 3% Movement to help figure out the language for its creative brief.

“I worked with the team at Grey, but they took the lead on the language and made sure it was brief and open-ended,” says Kat Gordon, founder of The 3% Movement, which advocates for diversity in the marketing industry. “If it was just a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question, then people would rush over it, but Grey settled on the ‘how’ question because then people have to defend it and put thought around it.”
