Apple Turns Up Audio Ambition With High-End Headphones

Apple’s AirPods earphones have been a surprise hit. Now, the company is planning a push into the high end of the market.

The Cupertino, California-based technology giant is working on noise-canceling, over-ear headphones that rival headsets from market leaders like Bose and even the company’s own Beats by Dre brand, according to people familiar with the product’s development. The company plans to launch the headphones as early as the end of this year, but has faced development challenges that might push back the release, the people said.

Work on the Apple headset has been on-and-off over the past year. The company encountered similar problems with the HomePod during its development, including multiple redesigns, according to the people. It’s possible Apple will redesign the headphones again before launch, or scrap the project altogether, they warned, asking not to be identified discussing private development work.

Bottom Drops Out for the Oscars, as Ratings Fall 24%

A dearth of eligible blockbusters and the ongoing secular shift in media consumption patterns conspired to put the squeeze on TV’s most formidable awards show, as ratings for ABC’s Sunday night Oscars broadcast appear to have fallen to an all-time low.

According to preliminary Nielsen data, the primetime portion of the 90th Annual Academy Awards averaged 24.4 million viewers and a 6.4 rating in ABC’s most inclusive demo, which translates to around 8.2 million adults 18 to 49 years old.

And while those early numbers suggest that the 2018 Oscarscast will take its rightful place among the year’s top 20 most-watched broadcasts, Sunday night’s show is all but certain to shake out as the lowest-rated Academy Awards ceremony in TV history.

Visit Seattle: Dreamcatcher

Visit Seattle wanted to take their drive to create entertainment-based content into another entertainment-centric environment that also reflected the spirit of the city: the Independent Spirit Awards. Rather than just ‘sponsor’ this event, we created the Seattle Story Award that is awarded to a filmmaker that embodies the Seattle spirit.

On January 6, this Award was presented to Matty Brown at the ISA Nominee Brunch on January 6 in LA. Matty exhibited the innovation, diversity and uniqueness of vision; while having a history of transforming perspectives through rich stories that was synergistic with Seattle’s own DNA. As recognized by the Film Independent Nominating Committee: Alongside a plethora of highly talented and fantastically creative storytellers considered for this award, The Seattle Story Award Committee is excited to champion one filmmaker in particular whose background, vision, and diversity of style and subjects exemplifies not only the independent spirit of filmmaking in the world abound, but more enigmatically that which is found in and fostered by the city of Seattle, Washington. We are excited to support this emerging voice and thereby the Seattle filmmaking community with this opportunity.

Matty’s film complements Visit Seattle’s branded content series Dear Seattle, produced in collaboration with SundanceTV and IFC and includes #LoveLettersToSeattle from filmmakers such as Dave Grohl, Megan Griffiths, Josh Taft and JJ Augustavo.
