Chanel: CHANCE

Chanel has launched a new campaign for its Chance fragrance with a series of four fun and beautifully shot spots, created in partnership with production company BRF (B-Reel Films) director Eva Michon. The series highlights the four scents in the Chance collection, with each being brought to life by a group of diverse young female talent — Angela Yen, Selah Marley, Belen Chavanne and Lily Newmark.

The shoot was set in the picturesque cityscape of Venice, Italy. Each video looks into the individual muse’s narrative through a circular lens, which mirrors the shape of a bottle of Chance. The campaign plays off these narratives, encouraging consumers to “Choose Your Chance” and enter a world where anything is possible.

Represented by Selah Marley, the daughter of singer Lauryn Hill, the original Chance is an optimistic scent that blends pink pepper, jasmine and ambery patchouli.

Twitter, Facebook, YouTube Support Bid to Restore Net Neutrality

Facebook, Twitter and Google’s YouTube on Wednesday told lawmakers that they support a legislative effort to restore net neutrality rules wiped out by the Federal Communications Commission last month.

Executives appearing before the Senate Commerce Committee replied to Senator Ed Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat, who asked their position on his resolution to nullify the FCC’s action.

“Yes, sir, thank you for your leadership on this issue,” replied Carlos Monje, a director for Twitter. YouTube’s Juniper Downs, global head of public policy and government relations, said the platform “will support any effort” to put back in place the rules gutted by the FCC. Facebook’s Monika Bickert, head of global policy management, said she had the “same answer: We will support the CRA,” shorthand for the measure proposed by Markey that would use the Congressional Review Act.

Facebook Investigating Possible Russia Meddling in Brexit

Facebook is expanding a U.K. investigation into possible interference by Russia ahead of the country’s 2016 election to exit the European Union, after facing pressure from lawmakers who were unsatisfied with an earlier probe by the social media company.

Facebook and Twitter previously told U.K. lawmakers that they found minimal use of their platforms compared to the more comprehensive Russian misinformation campaign ahead of the U.S. presidential election. The companies reached that conclusion by analyzing accounts U.S. intelligence officials said were used during the American election. British policy makers have pressed the companies to investigate further to see if Russia had used other methods on social media to influence the important EU vote.

“We are committed to making all reasonable efforts to establish whether or not there was coordinated activity similar to that which was found in the U.S. and will report back to you as soon as the work has been completed,” Facebook’s policy director, Simon Milner, said in a letter Wednesday to the members of a House of Commons panel investigating the use of social media to spread misinformation ahead of the EU referendum.

Cowboy Up: NFL Playoff Ratings Are Down 16%

The NFL’s season-long ratings crunch has carried into the playoffs, as the absence of a number of marquee franchises have made for some tough year-to-year comparisons in the Nielsen numbers.

According to the final live-plus-same-day data, the weekend’s four divisional round broadcasts averaged 30.2 million viewers and a 16.9 household rating, and while those are elite results by general TV standards, they were far off the mark from last season’s analogous games.

Overall viewership for the four games fell 16 percent versus the year-ago average of 36 million viewers, and household ratings slipped 13 percent from a 19.5.

Marketer's Brief: Guinness Takes the Buzz Out, Halo Top Picks Agency

Halo Top scoops up an agency of record

Ice cream brand Halo Top named agency and consultancy Wolfgang as its first agency of record. The agency selection comes as Halo Top, an Ad Age Marketer of the Year, continues to broaden its outreach amid growing competition in the lower-fat, lower-calorie, higher-protein ice cream segment. Last summer, it ran an online campaign from Red Tettemer O’Connell & Partners, followed by a 90-second spot featuring a woman being force-fed ice cream, directed by Mike Diva. Wolfgang says it will work on Halo Top’s strategy, creative and production. The agency’s first work is expected to break later this year.
