Trumpy Bear Is Now Backed by a National TV Ad Campaign


Depending on what circles you run in, you may not be aware that Trumpy Bear is a thing. Or, if you are aware it’s a thing, you may not be certain what kind of thing it isi.e., a real product or a spoof.

When the two-minute infomercial above was posted on YouTube in July, commenters rushed to declare it an epic trolling of the type of devoted Trump fans depicted in the ad (the most upvoted YouTube comment as of this writing is “This looks like a bad SNL skit”). But if it’s a joke, it’s an expensive joke; according to iSpot.tv, which has attention and conversion analytics from more than 7 million smart TV screens, Trumpy Bear is now backed by a national TV ad campaign. On Oct. 13, the two-minute infomercial began running on four networks: Animal Planet, Discovery, Grit TV and INSP (the “family entertainment programming” channel owned by Inspiration Ministries).

Over the past week, Trumpy Bear has expanded to 10 networks; the mix now includes the Outdoor Channel and the American Heroes Channel. To date, the ad has run 55 times, including five times so far today, according to iSpot. The type of shows it’s been airing onincluding reruns of “Cops,” “Walker, Texas Ranger” and “Bonanza”suggests that Trumpy Bear is not meant to be taken as a joke by its targeted TV viewing audience.

BMW Launches U.S. Agency Review


The BMW creative account is officially up for grabs. The luxury auto brand has kicked off a U.S. agency review, a brand spokesman confirmed.

The incumbent is MDC Partners-owned KBS. The shop has steadily lost other pieces of the brand’s U.S. business in recent months. In December, BMW handed web development to Omnicom’s Critical Mass after a review. Last year KBS lost the social media work to Laundry Service and the CRM account to MDC’s Gale Partners.

It was widely expected that BMW would put the creative account into review in 2018, but the process is now underway. A BMW spokesman confirmed that KBS was invited to defend the account. KBS representatives declined to comment on the review.

Opening Frame of the World Series Delivers 15 Million Viewers

Fox’s coverage of the 2017 World Series got off to a strong start Tuesday night, when game one averaged just under 15 million viewers and an 8.7 household rating. Discounting the opening frame of last year’s epochal Cubs-Indians showdown, which drew 19.4 million viewers, the turnout for the Astros-Dodgers broadcast gave Fox its most-watched opening night performance since 2010.

According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, Tuesday’s fast-paced game beat out the 2015 Mets-Royals opener by the merest dermal-dental layer (24,000 total viewers), though that doesn’t include out-of-home viewers or fans who accessed the game via the Fox Sports Go app or YouTube.
