Former Razorfish Managing Director Bryan Van Dyke Joins No Limit Agency as President

Chicago-based No Limit Agency hired industry veteran Bryan Van Dyke as president.

Van Dyke joins the agency after two years as an independent consultant, following nearly two years as chief operating officer for AutonomyWorks. Prior to that he spent eleven and a half years with Razorfish where he led client engagement for a decade and served as managing director before his departure in June of 2013.

Founded as a social media agency in 2008, No Limit Agency has grown to 30 employees and “now offers public relations, social media, creative design and development, franchise consulting and content marketing through its proprietary technology platform with two trade publications.”

Last year the agency brought in $5.1 million in revenue and it recently picked up an Effie Award for its work on the “Wiener Wars” campaign for Checkers & Rally’s. Its client roster also includes Dairy Queen, Ruby Tuesday, Sport Clips, Pita Pit, Smoothie King, Papa Murphy’s, and Sylvan Learning.

“Bryan joining No Limit Agency is a major moment in the lifecycle of our agency,” No Limit Agency founder and CEO Nick Powills said in a statement. “This is a big step forward for us to be more competitive with household names in the agency world. Bryan’s background and experience will help to advance our digital business. I look forward achieving our next level of success with his guidance.”

“What attracted me to No Limit Agency is that we have a clear positioning in the marketplace,” Van Dyke added. “From both a services and a technology standpoint, there are multiple avenues where we can grow the business to help our clients succeed in theirs. I plan on spending the first few months working alongside our leadership team and our clients to evolve our offerings to provide even more value to our clients.”

Invisible Hand Behind WPP Wednesday: Transparency

Call it WPP Wednesday: Surprisingly weak second-quarter earnings and dour forecasts by the giant agency holding company sent its stock plummeting 12%, pulling other holding companies down 3-7%.

While many things are likely to blame, one of the biggest may be the transparency issue lurking behind mysteriously vanishing U.S. agency revenue. Holding company revenue in North America has been flat to down in recent quarters, running well below increases in U.S. gross domestic product and media spending. It’s a trend that started the third quarter of last year, just after the Association of National Advertisers issued its report from investigations firm K2 on media transparency.

“There is at minimum a coincidence between the timing of the release of the K2 report and the sudden deceleration in U.S./North America organic revenue growth for the holding companies, which began in the third quarter of last year,” says Pivotal Research analyst Brian Wieser. “It’s hard to believe that it hasn’t had some impact in terms of clients looking to tighten up contract language. This is reinforced by my conversations with marketers who have only recently learned about how their contracts have allowed for agencies to generate authorized but undisclosed markups. But I also think that a slowdown in spending on media from large marketers is at play, as is zero-based budgeting.”

Cindy Gallop Joins With Pinterest to Promote Diversity

Cindy Gallop has a few choice words for certain men. This includes the now-ex Google employee, James Damore, recently fired for his claim that hiring to achieve diversity means sacrificing standards.

“Diversity raises the fucking bar,” says Gallop, an ad industry consultant and founder of IfWeRanTheWorld.

Her fighting words are emblazoned on a new ad campaign from Pinterest, “Right the Ratio,” that launches on the platform Wednesday, and she’ll say the same thing to anyone who will listen.
