Poetic Portraits of Women by Tamara Lichtenstein

Once again, this ad is meant for Facebook only and plays on the idea that Facebook videos are muted by default. In this case that’s a good thing because our Hotels.com spokesperson, Captain Obvious, is absolute shit at playing the piano.

Fallout 4 "Official trailer" (2015) 3:04 (USA)

Official Fallout 4 trailer right here, folks. The game a lot of people have been waiting for is finally back. It starts off great with a flickering back-and-forth between pre and post-apocalyptic life, set to an old song by The Ink Spots. Halfway through the nuclear war and its aftermath takes over and a hero returns. It’s set in Boston, by the way. Oh and there’s also the dog which is part of the entire narrative thread. This spot is a nice stoke piece for everyone just in time for E3. I can’t wait to play it. As a trailer though, it lost me after The Ink Spots stopped and the Serious Scored Music began, but hey, what’d you expect from a trailer this long? I’m sure the core gaming crowd will eat it up, though.

Hotels.com have found a way to (attempt to) cut through the clutter, in “Interpreter” the brand mascot Captain Obvious is using subtitles and an interpreter using American Sign Language. If the video is muted you get subtitles, and if it’s not you hear his spiel, making the ASL interpreter a little redundant…. But as Captain Obvious declares, she is also awesome. Spot on the brands current campaign tone of voice and clever for where the ads is positioned to boot. Love it.

Also love the way she repeats “Awesome.. Awesome…” If you pay attention to the ASL, she says “If you type “Gift me” in the comments you’ll get a gift card”.

Dish in Talks to Merge With T-Mobile U.S.

Dish Network Corp. is in talks to merge with T-Mobile U.S., though the purchase price is unresolved, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the negotiations.

John Legere, T-Mobile U.S.’s president and chief executive officer, would take the top role at the combined company, and Dish’s Charlie Ergen would be chairman, according to the Journal report.

Mr. Ergen, Dish’s largest shareholder, contacted T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom AG in September about acquiring the U.S. unit, people familiar with the talks said at the time. He has said he’s looking for acquisitions that will help him put a $50 billion stockpile of airwaves to work, and he previously lost a bid for Sprint Corp.

Brands Take (Long) Wait-and-See Approach to Mobile Video

Two of the biggest online video services — Google’s YouTube and Facebook — have quickly become primarily mobile video services and expect mobile to be the future of video. But it may take some time before advertisers meet them there.

Still a nascent market, advertisers are expected to up their U.S. mobile video ad budgets by 70% this year to $2.62 billion, according to new estimates from eMarketer. That’s roughly one-third of the $7.77 billion brands are projected to spend this year in the U.S. on digital video ads overall, but only 9% of the money they’ll drop on mobile ads overall.

An optimist might look at those numbers and think that mobile video has a lot of upside. And that person would be right. EMarketer expects mobile video ad spending to total $6.86 billion by 2019 and account for 47% of total digital video ad spending that year.
