Fotógrafo retrata espaços vazios deixados por anúncios antigos

Arrastado pelo beleza da destruição e da temporalidade, o fotógrafo Wyatt Gallery passou semanas fotografando os espaços vazios deixados por anúncios antigos nas paredes do metrô de Nova York. 

Em poucos dias, o que parecia uma pintura de pinceladas grossas e cores expressivas vira novamente um anúncio publicitário.

A série de fotos Subtext torna palpável décadas de papel rasgado e camadas arrancadas pelo tempo. Sujeiras, grafites e tinturas antigas transformam em tela cada pedaço de poster publicitário deixado para trás. 

Em uma estética que lembra a de arte abstrata, esses espaços vazios são temporários. Para conseguir seus registros, Gallery precisou rodar os metrôs por um bom tempo, o que acabou fazendo com que visse determinado espaço que havia fotografado ser preenchido novamente por publicidade.

A série de fotos Subtext enxerga um certa beleza que brota das dificuldades, destruições e do passar do tempo.

Nas fotografias de Gallery, esses espaços ganham uma visão transitória das camadas de história encontradas por aqueles túneis. São literalmente um instante congelado que nunca mais será igual mas, ao mesmo tempo, agregará tudo aquilo que já foi – tal como nós mesmos. 

No fim, as fotos são retratos de obras de arte acidentais, feitas pelas mãos de trabalhadores desconhecidos que diariamente colam e descolam anúncios nas paredes. Uma documentação humana do passar do tempo.
