China's State-Run TV Criticizes Car Brands Including Land Rover

China’s state-run television reported that Jaguar Land Rover hasn’t properly handled an alleged flaw on an SUV model, and that car dealerships for several big brands inflate repair costs.

Jaguar Land Rover’s Range Rover Evoque SUVs have gearbox problems that the company has failed to fully address, according to the annual consumer rights program shown Sunday on China Central Television, citing customer complaints. This year’s program also contained allegations that dealers for brands including Nissan, Volkswagen and Mercedes overstated problems with vehicles and then overcharged for simple fixes.

The program, broadcast each year to mark World Consumer Rights Day, typically has reporters with hidden cameras posing as customers to expose flaws at companies. The show also reported on allegations that local giant China Mobile Ltd. enabled fraudsters trying to swindle money from customers. Companies singled out in past years include McDonald’s Corp., Volkswagen AG, and Apple Inc., whose Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook apologized to Chinese consumers after 2013’s program.

desicreative
desicreative – Indian Advertising Creative Blog and Community (beta 1.4)

Shubhankar is an aspiring Illustrator/Visualiser from Mumbai. His expertise lie in vector graphics and he is a big fan of the nineties’ cartoons. Right from his childhood he used to admire Lord Shiva and his stories always used to entertain him. So most of his illustrations revolve around Lord Shiva and his different avatars. He love dogs alot and tries to help the strays in every way possible. Apart from that he is a State champion in boxing, he likes to sing, is a hardcore gamer and most importantly, very curious.

Why are you an illustrator?
Right from my childhood I liked to draw, there was not a single wall left in my house where there was no doodle of mine. In my native place there is temple of Lord Rama and inside that temple are many beautiful paintings related to Lord Rama and his noble deeds. Those painting are definitely one of the major factors why I am an Illustrator.

Did you attend school of fine art or design?
Yes I attended Asmita Applied Art Academy which is in Dadar. There I learned the aesthetics of art and design.

You have a distinct style of illustration. How long did it take you to develop that style?
Yes I do have my own style of illustration. For one to develop his/her style takes lot of patience as it’s a long process of trial and error. I think it took me around 1 year to develop my style.

Were there any role models for you when you grow up?
Yes! Of course and the first role model is my dad. My dad is a metal fabricator so from childhood to present I’ve been seeing him sketching numerous designs. And secondly it’s none other than legendary R.K.Laxman .  The opening title of Malgudi Days was treat to my eyes as there were many beautiful illustrations in it.

Who was the most influential personality on your career in Illustrations?
The most influential personalities on my career in Illustrations are none other than my parents. It’s only because of their support and constant motivation that I love my work and pursued it as my career.

Are many advertising agencies getting illustrations made these days? Do you work more with agencies or publishers?
Definitely there are many agencies now that are getting illustrations done for their campaign, which is a good sign for the Illustrators. I work more for agencies, currently working for Publicis Groupe.

Was there any time when you wanted to quit Illustrations?
Never!

Have you considered turning your illustrations into toys?
Well that’s one of the things I have in mind. And someday will definitely do that.

Any other Indian Illustrators who you admire?
Ravi Paranjape, Sameer Kulavoor, Alicia Souza, Dattaraj Kamat are few of the Illustrators I admire.

Do you have any favourite fellow illustrators or resources relating to your fields?
Yes I do have a favourite fellow illustrator and that’s my younger brother. It’s really helpful to have a younger brother who also loves and do what you do.

You have such a wide experience as a top working professional. What advice do you have for aspiring creative professionals? Would you advise them to take on Illustration as a career option? Is it paying well enough?
My only advice to all the aspiring creative professionals is that please guys don’t compare yourself with others, because we all have that unique style of working. Everyone cannot be awesome in everything, but you can be THE BEST in what you know and can do. And I will highly recommend people who want to become Illustrators to take Illustrations as a career option. Because nowadays alot of agencies are looking for serious illustrators. We creative people are very lucky to do what we love and it would be awesome if we can opt it as our career. About is this career paying well goes I will say that you being satisfied is at top priority, if you enjoy your work then surely success will come knocking at your door.

Whats your dream project?
My dream project with doubt will be for the stray animals. I want to have an Illustrative campaign for the betterment  of stray animals and what all kind deeds we people can do. And I’ve already started working on it.

Mac or PC?
Currently I have PC, but in future I want it to be Mac for work and PC only for games!!!

What’s on your iPod?
There are many genres of music that I listen to, but mostly there is Kenny G, Poets of the fall, Linkin Park, Owl City, Sufi, Ghazals and Blues.

HomeAway Boosts Marketing Budget as Home Rental Category Heats Up

HomeAway, the vacation-rental company, is doubling down on marketing as it looks to build its brand and distinguish itself from rivals, namely Airbnb.

Since going public in 2011, HomeAway, which advertised in both the 2010 and 2011 Super Bowls, backed away from brand marketing efforts. It focused instead on integrating the myriad technology platforms it had inherited through a series of acquisitions, said co-founder and CEO Brian Sharples. HomeAway went five years without a CMO.

With that accomplished, HomeAway is unveiling a new campaign, “Whole Vacation,” launching today, which is meant to be the beginning of a multi-year consumer marketing push. And Mr. Sharples says the company is ready to invest. It will boost its $60 million budget by 50%, he said, adding that 70% to 80% of that will be spent on digital media. TV ads are slated to run in the U.S., Germany, France and the U.K.
