NFL to Run Anti-Domestic Violence Spot in Super Bowl

The NFL, which has been under fire this season for how it has handled player domestic violence cases, will use some of its ad time during the Super Bowl for an anti-domestic violence public service announcement.

The league will donate 30 seconds of commercial airtime during the first quarter for the PSA on behalf of No More, an organization formed in 2013 to combat domestic violence and sexual assault. The NFL covered the production costs for the Super Bowl spot and it was created by Grey, the NFL’s ad agency. Grey donated its time for the ad, according to the agency.

Grey is also expected to produce a regular brand ad for the league that will run during the game.

Mercedes Debuts Super Bowl Ad on 'Ellen' Show

Mercedes-Benz premiered its Super Bowl ad for the AMG GT sports car — an edgy take on the fabled tortoise vs. hare race — on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Monday.

Mercedes tried to set up the premise and drum up anticipation with several teaser videos, which it posted on YouTube and began airing on TV on Jan. 18, the day of the NFL’s Conference Championship games.

This is the second time Ms. DeGeneres has debuted a Super Bowl spot on her show, a spokeswoman said. Last year, DeGeneres unveiled a Beats headphones commercial she starred in.

Lexus GS "Break The Circle" (2015) :30 (USA)

While other cars are driving in visual metaphor circles, Lexus GS is breaking the circle. Or breaking though it. Or driving through it. Or driving through it, and then turning a hard corner to make the Lexus Logo. Whatever.

Google, Cablevision Aim to Upend Wireless Industry With Wi-Fi Calling

The rough-and-tumble wireless business may get even rougher.

Two companies, Google and Cablevision, are seperately plotting ways to cut into profits from wireless carriers through Wi-Fi calling. According to reports from The Information and then the Wall Street Journal, the search giant is launching a service, coming later this year, to sell wireless service directly to consumers using both Sprint and T-Mobile networks. Per reports, Google would let customers flip between Wi-Fi hot spots and carriers.

Cablevision, a regional cable provider, is coming out with something similar next month: “Freewheel,” a Wi-Fi monthly phone service coupled with broadband. At the onset, the phone will only be offered with Motorola’s discounted Moto G.

Oculus has created a movie studio called Story Studio to produce movies that take advantage of the VR headset’s ability to let people explore and interact with what they’re watching, according to reports.

Volvo Twitter Stunt Gets Mileage from Other Automakers' Super Bowl Ads

Volvo plans to stage an “interception” of sorts during the Super Bowl with help from Grey, New York. As of 6:30 p.m., viewers will have the opportunity to nominate someone they deem deserving of a Volvo XC60 every time a car spot airs during the live event.

Nominations will be made over Twitter with the hashtag #VolvoContest. The car brand will then ask eligible tweeters to justify their choices before choosing five finalists to win the new SUV.

There might not be too many entries though, as 2015 is proving to be a quieter year on the Super Bowl front for the auto sector. Hyundai was the most recent brand to opt out of the Big Game, along with Volkswagen, Audi, Lincoln, Jaguar, Honda and Acura.
