Coming Home: LeBron James Climbs the Viral Video Chart (Again)


LeBron James is back in heavy ad rotation, on TV and online, as the new NBA season arrives and he returns to the Cleveland Cavaliers. A new campaign starring Mr. James from Beats by Dre topped any other non-movie brand campaign on the web in the week that ended Sunday, according to Visible Measures. Previous chart-topping LeBron brand videos include Samsung’s ad for the LeBron app last May, the Miami Heat’s Harlem Shake video last year and and a Nike clip upon his move to Miami in 2010. (Mr. James is also on TV right now in a new Sprite ad, a Creativity pick this week.)

Other hits on the latest Viral Video Chart include a new Air New Zealand in-flight safety video, again set in Middle Earth and this time starring Elijah Wood; Ikea’s “Shining” homage, timed to Halloween; and Exxon’s campaign encouraging young people to become engineers.

Homegrown carmakers struggled with young designers who might not have even had driver’s licenses. Or they farmed out work to overseas studios. The result was often a hodgepodge of clashing looks.

Kleenex Encourages Simple Acts of Tissue Sharing


Kleenex often hears stories about people sharing the brand’s tissues in opportune moments of kindness. Brand Manager Jon Kruesi has heard them himself, one from a friend who recounted how she was sniffling as she waited for a train at the end of a lousy day, only to have her spirits lifted by a stranger offering a Kleenex.

Now, the Kimberly-Clark Corp. brand is turning those stories into the centerpiece of its crucial cold-season marketing campaign breaking Wednesday. The #KleenexCare effort aims to get people talking about simple acts of kindness (preferably involving sharing tissues) through a digital, social-media, public-relations and TV campaign.

Of course, one way people can show kindness is not to spread germs around, so Kleenex will promote its Anti-Viral tissues as part of the effort. But Mr. Kruesi also said people often offer Kleenex to others at emotional moments, such as weddings.
