Maurice Lvy to Remain Chairman-CEO of Publicis Until 2017

The succession problem at Publicis Groupe lingers on. The company said today Maurice Lvy will continue as Publicis Groupe chairman-CEO until May or June 2017 a few months after his 75th birthday. Publicis Chief Operating Officer Jean-Yves Naouri is no longer in the running for the post.

In a shakeup, the French communications giant has brought more talent to the senior management board, but continues to delay finding a successor for Mr. Lvy, who has been running Publicis since 1987.

Mr. Naouri was once seen as the frontrunner for Mr. Lvy’s successor, but seems to have been a casualty of the failure of Publicis Groupe’s proposed merger with Omnicom. It wasn’t clear at press time whether Mr. Naouri will remain with the company.

Clear Channel Rebrands As IHeartMedia

Clear Channel is rebranding yet again. Just two years after it stripped “radio” from its corporate title, the radio behemoth is taking on the name of its digital-radio platform. Clear Channel will now be called iHeartMedia after its iHeartRadio platform, the company said today.

While Chairman-CEO Bob Pittman said the core of the company is still its 840 radio stations, the new name will reflect the company’s multiplatform presence and ability to embrace innovation and new technology.

The company’s out-of-home advertising unit will retain the name Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings.

Electrical Pylon Silhouettes

The brands at London Fashion Week: how Burberry leads the way on the innovation catwalk

Buoyed by Apple Watch, Wearable Tech Poised for a Boom

“It’s all in beta, whether it’s the product or the marketing,” one agency executive who works with smartphone manufacturers said of the devices. Another added, “It’s such a young area. There are still a tiny bit of people that are predisposed to buy this stuff. But that was true of smartphones.”

To date, only a small sliver of consumers (mostly on the tech-obsessed coasts) have bought a smartwatch. Everyone else seems turned off by their price and, more importantly, is not exactly sure what they do.

A few marketers, such as Samsung, have run splashy ads for the devices, but they haven’t gone full-force in media buying, partly because the products have a long way to go. Another big reason is that most players in the space have been waiting to see what Apple, with its much-anticipated launch last week, would bring to the game.
