ESPN to bring World Cup football updates to London Underground customers

Transport for London (TfL) has partnered with global football website ESPN FC to bring live World Cup football updates to London Underground commuters from Thursday.

Location Data Company Placed Raises $10 Million to Track Store Visits


Placed, which tracks the movements of 175,000 people in the U.S. through their mobile devices, just scored $10 million in a series B funding round led by Two Sigma Ventures.

The company has added media firms and ad networks to its expanding client roster including Pandora, The Weather Channel, Rocket Fuel and InMobi. Madrona Venture Group is the only other investor in the current funding round.

Placed has a panel of around 175,000 app users who agree to have their mobile location data tracked in exchange for gift cards, contest entries and other goodies. The company gathers data on 175 million locations on daily basis from people who opt-in to apps it works with, according to David Shim, CEO of Placed.

Can Native Ads Save the Soul of Digital Advertising?


During the OMMA Native Ad Conference at Internet Week last month, I heard an ad tech executive proclaim, “But digital banner ads work. They keep publishers afloat.”

I literally gasped out loud. Aside from the fact that “keeping publishers afloat” is hardly a ringing endorsement, it highlighted how differently technologists and advertisers look at the world. Plainly put — from a business perspective — if digital advertising’s abysmal engagement rates are failing advertisers, they are failing everyone — publishers, agencies, advertisers and, of course, consumers. Game over.

The tech guy’s comment continued to reverberate in my mind when, as a panelist, I joined a session called “Rise of the Robot Natives: Oxymoron or Solution?” Moderator Steve Carbone, managing director at Mediacom, started the session with the question on his and everyone’s mind: “Will turning native advertising into programmatic units literally destroy the quality of native content?”

Top PR Firms Promise They Won't Edit Clients' Wikipedia Entries on the Sly


Several of the largest public-relations agencies issued a joint statement Wednesday promising to play by the rules of Wikipedia. It comes after years of PR agencies surreptitiously editing their clients’ pages on the site, much to the dismay of Wikipedia’s volunteer editors.

In the statement, 11 PR agencies “publicly state and commit” to abide by five principles that would prevent them from editing a client’s Wikipedia entry without first going through proper channels. It also makes overtures toward repairing the tenuous relationship between the PR industry and Wikipedia.

The firms that signed the statement are Edelman, Ogilvy & Mather, Fleishman Hillard, Burson-Marsteller, Ketchum, Porter Novelli, Peppercomm, MDC Partners, Voce Communications, Allison & Partners and Beutler Ink.

FIFA não quer que torcedores postem sobre o jogo a partir do estádio

Um guia de conduta da FIFA, divulgado no finzinho da semana passada, sugere como seria o comportamento exemplar dos torcedores dessa Copa do Mundo, e traz algumas curiosas proibições.

Uma delas é o impedimento de postagens nas redes sociais sobre o resultado dos jogos a partir dos estádios.

“Os torcedores não deverão transmitir ou de qualquer forma disseminar pela internet ou qualquer outra mídia, inclusive dispositivos móveis, qualquer som, imagem, descrição ou resultado de qualquer evento que esteja ocorrendo dentro do Estádio, no todo ou em parte, ou auxiliar outra pessoa na condução de tais atividades”

O Diário do Nordeste destaca também que xingamentos não serão aceitos dentro das arenas, bem como a entrada com tablets e instrumentos musicais, como caxirolas, vuvuzelas e cornetas.

Há também regulamentação para os futuros cartazes tentando chamar a atenção de Galvão Bueno nas arquibancadas – eles deverão se restringir às medidas de 2m x 1,50m.

Claramente a FIFA espera um comportamento de lorde dos torcedores, além de pedir por alguns detalhes que parecem quase impossíveis de controlar. Como evitar Instagramadas, Vines, tuitadas, comentários e vídeos no Facebook feitos por quem está dentro do estádio?
