What Your Grocery Store Might Look Like in 2025 (Transforming at Night, for One Thing)

Picture this: A grocery store with shifting walls that transforms into a restaurant at night and a farmers market on Saturday mornings.

Sound far-fetched? It could happen by as soon as 2025, according to a new exhibit that seeks to predict food retail trends for the next 10 years. The predictions come from the Food Marketing Institute, which represents food retailers operating nearly 40,000 U.S. stores. The organization debuted the exhibit on Wednesday in Chicago as part of a sprawling trade show that it is hosting this week.

The exhibit was overseen by Tesser, a San Francisco-based brand strategy and design firm. In the video above Tesser CEO Tre Musco talks about the project, whose sponsors include Hershey Co., Coca-Cola Refreshments and American Express.

Vale o play. senna

Look out geeky designers, art directors and gadget freaks in general, the scribble pen is almost here! What if you could tap an item, anything at all to pick its color, just like you do in photoshop, and then start to draw on your tablet or mobile with that exact color.

Facebook to Use Web Browsing History For Ad Targeting

Through its ubiquitous “like” buttons on publisher sites across the web, Facebook has long been able to watch the web surfing behavior of its 1.28 billion monthly users.

Soon it will begin to use that information for ad targeting on Facebook.

Facebook already enables retargeting to users who’ve previously visited specific websites and apps, which advertisers can turn on by affixing tracking software to their products. Additionally, ads can be retargeted to Facebook users on their desktop screens via FBX, the company’s ad exchange, which a plethora of demand-side platforms like Turn and AdRoll are plugged into.

Brazil Is Somewhat Ready For World Cup; Don't Ask About Qatar

Soccer’s governing body, FIFA, isn’t at all popular in Brazil right now, but it doesn’t have much to do with the growing scandal over possible corruption in the decision to award Qatar the 2022 World Cup.

Brazil has enough scandals of its own, as indignant Brazilians have watched their government sink billions of dollars into soccer stadiums with enormous cost overruns in a country where basic public services like education, safety and health are starved for funds. (In Brazil, marketers’ immediate concern seems to be that Brazil actually be ready in time to host games in 12 cities, but sponsors Sony and Adidas are pressing FIFA to investigate the Qatar allegations, revealed in detail by the Sunday Times).

In an unusual move, FIFA President Sepp Blatter and Dilma Rousseff, Brazil’s president, are not expected to speak at the opening of the World Cup, when Brazil faces Croatia on June 12 in Sao Paulo’s new stadium. That’s because a year ago, Mr. Blatter, with Ms. Rousseff at his side, was booed at the opening ceremony for the Confederations Cup that is a dry run for the World Cup.

Techno

Taking submissions for Adbusters #115 now!

Hey wild ones,

We’re now half way through the Blueprint for a New World series, with Psycho, Eco and Corpo behind us, and Techno, Politico and Aesthetico still up ahead. With #114: Corpo about to hit newsstands worldwide next Monday, all of us here at Culture Jammers HQ are busily brainstorming the next issue, Adbusters #115 — Techno.

We are currently living through an unprecedented shift in the very fabric of human existence. As we upload nearly every aspect of our lives to digital lands, our daily experiences are morphing drastically and irreversibly. The way we communicate, the way we court, the way we learn, the way we make love, shop and think is undergoing a total, fast-paced and likely unavoidable transformation.

And now even the most proudly digitized of us are recognizing that this culture of information, porn, social media and gadget overload is taking a toll on our physical, mental and spiritual well-beings. Are we all being swept away in a tidal wave of Technorati culture — the nouveau hipsterdom of the tech-savvy, gadget-addicted, ultra-hip youth?

Share with us your most intimate musings, the tales of your brutal struggle with digital withdrawal and your most gut-wrenching testimonies from both the dark and bright sides of web culture. As reality dies and virtuality thrives, tell us where you think we’re heading as a species, your forebodings of doom and your breakthrough ideas on how we can harness the power of the internet and other technologies to create a sane sustainable future.

Whether you’re already a cyborg or still human, send your submissions and suggestions to editor@adbusters.org before June 23, 2014 … We need you to turn this Techno issue into an inspiring mindbomb.
