Crispin brings BK food to the unenlightened

Whopper-virgin

Nothing speaks to modernity—nay, civilization—quite like the dollar menu. Crispin Porter + Bogusky is kicking off a new Burger King campaign that seeks out “Whopper virgins,” those poor souls who haven’t yet sunk their teeth into mass-produced meat. Crispin is returning to its familiar reality-TV conceit to capture reactions of those tasting a Whopper for the first time. (Go back to the well much, Crispin?) Naturally, it’s hard to find many Americans who fit the bill. So, like any good colonialist, Crispin is traveling the world to enlighten the savages about the wonders of fast food. The site promises jaunts through rural Romania and the tundra of Greenland. Bonus: the subjects will dress in their native garments. Griner makes a practical objection: how does Crispin plan on getting fresh burgers to these remote places? The Inquisitr finds the whole thing deeply offensive. I’d say it’s more embarrassing and emblematic of how ignorant Americans still seem to the rest of the world.

J&J Consolidation Kills KPR

kpr.jpg

In 1962, John Kallir, Jerry Phillips and Warren Ross opened one of the first pharma agencies, named KPR. But, following the consolidation of Johnson & Johnson into WPP and IPG, the 40-person shop is closing.

According to a report in Medical Marketing & Media (MM&M), some of the 40 KPR alums may be absorbed by sibling Omnicom’s family of agencies.

“It’s still an iconic brand,” said Pat Sloan, SVP and corporate director for Omnicom’s Diversified Agency Services group. “The aim is that it could live on under another network. We’re looking to redistribute talent wherever possible and minimize layoffs.”

Design the official T-shirt for Cannes 2009

Tee

Uniqlo, the Japanese apparel company that swept the advertising award shows this year with its entertaining blog widget, is teaming up with the Cannes International Advertising Festival for a contest to select the official T-shirt of next year’s festival. The company, which won Grand Prix honors in both Titanium and Cyber, is inviting people to submit designs for review by the 2009 judges. The design, of course, must be original and include a lion, the symbol of the festival. While only one design will honored as the “official T-shirt” of the event, 10 entries will be sold as T-shirts next summer in Uniqlo stores. Past festival T-shirts usually only got worn out of necessity (lost luggage and blazing heat topping that list). Maybe these will actually make their way back home with the attendees.

People backed their not new cars away from their houses with upside down mortgages over the holiday weekend and went shopping. Let’s hear it for America!

The National Retail Federation’s 2008 Black Friday Weekend survey–which measured Friday and Saturday, and used estimates for Sunday–indicates that some 172 million Americans shopped in stores and Web sites over Thanksgiving weekend, an increase from last year’s 147 million. NRF estimates shoppers spent an average of $372.57–a 7.2% jump from the $347.55 spent last year, with total spending projected at $41 billion.

“Pent-up demand on electronics and clothing, plus unparalleled bargains on this season’s hottest items, helped drive shopping all weekend,” the trade group says in its release.

For those who didn’t get their retail on this weekend, may I remind you that today is CyberMonday. 80 million people are expected to make online purchases today. I, for one, refuse to be left out.

Blind Item: Which London CD is said to Galavant Around Stockholm with his Mistress?

news009.jpg

Oh the dirty details we’re told. Rumor has it that a London based agency’s (recently married) creative director spent the weekend in Stockholm for Eurobest 2008 Festival…with his co-worker/mistress. According to our spy, the pair stayed at the luxurious Intercontinental Grand Hotel Stockholm “to prepare” his presentation.

Per our source:

“And who does he take with him? the mistress of course…the most competent for the job… So the two love birds end up spending a romantic week-end get away… and no one says a word. Seriously, I’ve gotten confirmation from the hotel that these two ‘colleagues’ are staying in a ‘double bedroom, with kingsize bed’. A real meritocracy… and in this time of financial turmoil, I would add this is really good management as well!”

So, who is this mistress purported to be? Find out after the jump.
