Hallmark Has a Card for Every Occasion
Posted in: UncategorizedCalifornia and Massachusetts both recognize gay marriage and now so does the nation’s largest greeting card company does too. An AP report says that Hallmark is introducing a new line of same-sex wedding greeting cards. Although the language is neutral, with no mention of wedding or marriage, the message is clear. Apparently these kinds of cards were in high demand which prompted the decision by Hallmark to create them. Good old supply and demand. The cards are being slowly released and are expected to be widely available by next year. Hallmark has always had those very touching commercials and more recently those really funny ones. I wonder if they will shy away from producing commercials to promote their new efforts. Hallmark says this move was not motivated by political pressure. But really aren’t they all?

Posted in: UncategorizedThe latest pitchman for the Nationwide Insurance “Life Comes At You Fast” campaign is a real hair raiser. American Idol’s Sanjaya Malakar will be featured in the latest commercial. This is the newest spot in a series of spots that have featured celebs including MC Hammer and K-Fed and accurately point out the need to be mindful that you never know what will happen in your life financially and for that reason you need insurance. But let’s be honest, life came at the child long before American Idol ended.

Posted in: UncategorizedDavid Barton Gym wants everyone naked
Posted in: UncategorizedDavid Barton Gym is back with more advertising encouraging rampant nakedness. Its new campaign uses the tagline, “I’d pay to see you sweat,” superimposed on images like this one, showing a nude, shaved-headed model being sketched by two art-school dudes. Presumably the model has sculpted her body at the gym; the dudes may be the ones who would shell out the bucks to get her to perspire. It’s all a bit unclear, and it’s not clarified much on the Web site, LookBetterNaked.com. The one saving grace: David himself is nowhere to be seen.

Posted in: UncategorizedJohn Battelle, CEO of Battelle Media, a company that sells advertising for a group of high profile blogs, is now venturing into experiential marketing.
According to Ad Age, Battelle organized what he’s calling CrowdFire at this weekend’s Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco.
CrowdFire is an attempt to bring a mash-up of the thousands of camera-phone pictures, hand-held digital-video recordings, blog posts and “tweets” generated at the event. He said the idea is to create a type of organized framework — a “database of experiences” — combining varied media generated at live shows.
“We want to get a cloud of media to become something fungible that people can see and work with to create new things,” Battelle said. “I want the performance to go from one-to-many to many-to-many.”
Microsoft and Intel are underwriting the endeavor. Microsoft will be promoting Windows Live products, including Live Messenger, Live Earth and Live Spaces, as well as its Zune and Xbox products.

They’re gone one typo too far: AZ central – Typo vigilantes answer to letter of the law
Two self-anointed “grammar vigilantes” who toured the nation removing typos from public signs have been banned from national parks after vandalizing a historic marker at the Grand Canyon.
Jeff Michael Deck, 28, of Somerville, Mass., and Benjamin Douglas Herson, 28, of Virginia Beach, Va., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Flagstaff after damaging a rare, hand-painted sign in Grand Canyon National Park. They were sentenced to a year’s probation, during which they cannot enter any national park, and were ordered to pay restitution.

Deck’s diary account of the Grand Canyon incident was submitted as evidence in court. It says the two men climbed Desert View Watchtower while on holiday from their typo-enforcement duties “and discovered a hand-rendered sign inside that, I regret to report, had a few errors. I know today was supposed to be my day off from typo-hunting, but if I may be permitted to quote that most revered of android law enforcers, Inspector Gadget, ‘Always on duty!’ I can’t shut it off. . . . Will we never be free from the shackles of apostrophic misunderstanding, even in a place surrounded by natural beauty?”
After correcting a misplaced apostrophe and comma, Deck reported, he was aghast to discover what he described as a made-up word: “emense.”
“I was reluctant to disfigure the sign any further, so we had to let the other typo stand. Still, I think I shall be haunted by that perversity.”
TEAL’s official site now only carries the statement: “Statement on the signage of our National Parks and public lands to come.”
