USA Snags Miss Universe Crown, But Canada May Get Digital Agency
Posted in: UncategorizedA 20-year-old Boston University student and cellist, Olivia Culpo, last night was crowned the winner of the Miss Universe competition, marking the first time that USA brought home the crown since 1997. But of all the 88 contestants vying for the title, it was our neighbors to the north who got our attention here at Ad Age.
During the Las Vegas broadcast of the competition — which is co-owned by NBC and Donald Trump — Miss Canada, Adwoa Yamoah, revealed to the world her ad aspirations.
The 24-year-old currently works for one of Canada’s largest media companies, Corus Radio in Calgary, according to her official pageant profile. She’s worked as a marketing manager, which she says inspired her to get closer to her goal of opening her own ad firm “focused on interactive media.” Local shops should look out. If Ms. Yamoah was to hang her own shingle, she’d be competing with the likes of established shops such as Red Urban, Blue, Spoke and the local branch of BBDO Proximity.
