See the Trailer for HBO’s ‘Silicon Valley’: Apparently There Are No Women in Tech (Except Go-Go Dancers)

Since it was released on YouTube last night by HBO, this trailer for the upcoming Mike Judge comedy “Silicon Valley” has already racked up more than 300,000 views. That probably has to do more with curiosity about what Judge — the creator of “Office Space,” “Beavis & Butthead” and “King of the Hill” — has planned than about the appeal of the clip itself, which introduces us to a stock cast of insufferable tech nerds. There are, rather glaringly, barely any women in the clip, except for a scantilly clad go-go dancer (and/or stripper?) who appears for about a second.
There’s also, at another point, a disembodied female voice that coos (presumably to one of the lead characters), “Your compression algorithm blew our engineering team away.”
As of this writing, the most-liked comment about the trailer on YouTube is from actress Felicia Day, who wrote: “I am sad one of the main characters isn’t a woman. I will still be totally watching this. But yeah.”
