Samsung Teams With Jay-Z For Album Download Offer


Two quarters of the way through game 5 of this year’s NBA playoffs, Samsung and rapper Jay-Z presented Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs fans with the opportunity to download his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail 72-hours before its July 4th release. For free.

That is, if they manage to be amongst the first million Samsung SIII, S4 and Galaxy Note users to download customized new app that will available on June 24th. According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung paid Jay-Z $5 per unit, effectively granting him $5 million in sales and platinum album status before the album is even released.

72andSunnny’s three-minute spot aired last night and features the musician in a work session with an all-star team of producers – Rick Rubin, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and Pharrell Williams – discussing his vision for his new project. The ad ends with Samsung’s tagline “The Next Big Thing.”
