McCann Promotes Chris Macdonald to North American President

McCann Worldgroup promoted Chris Macdonald, formerly president of its New York office, to the role of president of North America. In the expanded role, Macdonald will continue running the New York office, while also leading the North America group that includes Casanova//McCann, McCann Detroit, twofifteenmccann San Francisco, McCann Minneapolis and MacLaren McCann Canada.

“Chris has done an outstanding job leading New York,” said McCann Worldgroup chairman and CEO Harris Diamond. “In his new role, Chris will bring the same proactive, client-focused growth approach to our North American team with an emphasis on strengthening our integrated creative, strategic and omni-platform capabilities.”

Macdonald has served as president, McCann New York for the past three years, during which time the agency has added clients such as New York State Lottery, Reckitt Benckiser, Choice Hotels, MGM Resorts, and State Street Advisors.

He moved across the pond to accept the position with McCann New York in July of 2013 from McCann London, where he served as chairman and CEO. He originally joined McCann London as a client services director in 2005 and was promoted to a role as managing director the following year, eventually working his way up to CEO. Before joining McCann, he spent five years as a managing partner with RKCR/Y&R. That followed four years as associate director with Lowe Howard-Spink and three as head of account management at Publicis.

New CDO at McCann NY

Today McCann New York announced the hiring of agency vet Daniel Bennett as its new chief digital officer.

While Bennett most recently served as managing director at AnalogFolk, he has an extensive agency history doing work on the account side: he spent more than a year as digital account director at M&C Saatchi London and handled various MARS clients in addition to Absolut, Nissan and others at TBWAChiatDay before moving to JWT as director of digital strategy.

After leaving JWT, he spent two years launching and running AnalogFolk, scoring clients in the sports, beverage and apparel categories and bringing his influence to bear on everything from site redesigns to digital OOH and short films.

On joining McCann, he writes, “I’m thrilled to be part of the team…the opportunity to help build on the existing digital capabilities and add to the agency’s current momentum is thoroughly exciting.”

New York president Chris Macdonald notes that Bennett will work with accounts across the entire agency to help develop a range of digital platforms including “mobile, web [and] physical digital elements.”

McCann Goes on Promotion Spree

Twas a busy day at camp McCann as the Worldgroup has made several promotions within its leadership ranks. Among those getting a bump-up are Michael McLaren, formerly MRM East president and global client solutions director, who has now been made president of MRM’s worldwide operations.

While we’re on the MRM front, Hank Summy, who joined McCann from Sapient in fall 2011 to serve as president, North America, will now serve as president, commerce at the former agency. Meanwhile, current MRM EVP/chief technology officer, North America Andy Jacobs (pictured) will add global responsibilities to his CTO role. Taking over as president at McCann New York will be one Chris Macdonald, most recently chief executive at the agency’s London office. Speaking of McCann London, while Macdonald crosses the pond, Rob Doubal and Laurence Thomson, who served as co-ECDs in said office, will be moving up the ladder to serve as co-presidents/chief creative officers. Get all that? Good.
