Eti Goel is a Graphic Designer and Illustrator based out of Bangalore. She studied Animation and Multimedia from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi. Growing up, watching cartoons and animated movies inspired her to choose a career that stimulates her creative mind.

Apart from graphics, she is an animal and nature lover, fashionista, foodie and loves to travel. Her weakness lies in interesting stationery and good packaging.

Why are you a Graphic Designer?
I am happy being in a profession where I get the chance to make anything visually appealing. I always look into the details of everything around me, like hoardings, packaging of products, or the simplest of ads, and think how I would create it in my own style and make it better.

Did you attend school for fine art or design?
Yes, I graduated in Animation and Multimedia from Birla Institute of technology, Mesra, Ranchi.

You have a distinct style of Design. How long did it take you to develop your style?
I think one should not stick to any particular style. Depending on the idea I pick the style, it can be a sketch, a doodle or an illustration. But these days, I am absolutely enjoying vector illustrations.

Were there any particular role models for you when you grew up?
It’s pretty cliched but yes, my mother (I have a tattoo which says Maa). She helps and supports me in taking all my life decisions, be it big or small.

Who was the most influential personality on your career in graphic design?
I would say it’s everyone with whom I have worked with. Everyone has played an important role in making me a better designer in every aspect, irrespective of their profession. So, thank you guys!

When did you start freelancing?
I started freelancing during my college time. But, I’ve been working as a full-time designer post graduation.

Was there any time when you wanted to quit graphic design?
No, never! I’m doing what I love to do and getting paid for it.

Are many advertising agencies hiring graphic designers? Do you work more with agencies or publishers?
Yes, a lot of agencies are hiring graphic designers but I’m working in the e-commerce sector.

Any other Indian graphic designers who you admire?
Akshar Pathak & Alicia Souza.

What advice do you have for aspiring creative professionals? Would you advise them to take on graphic design as a career option?
Yes, graphic design is a good career option. My suggestion would be to keep updating yourself with new graphic styles, color and illustration trends. Keep following good artists & websites to develop better taste in design and visuals. And enjoy what you do (best mantra), don’t underestimate any idea you have, you never know what can work for you.

Do you think Clients are opening up to keeping aside a decent respectable budget for design work? Do you think clients are understanding that they need to invest in Design as a communication tool and also to cut the clutter, and that good design comes at a price?
I think yes, especially startups. They really care about how their product looks and are willing to pay good money for good design. But, there are all kinds of clients.

Mac or PC?
Obviously, Mac!

Who would you like to take out for dinner?
There’s a long list of celebrities I would love to go out for dinner with. But, if I have to pick one, it would be Malika Favre. I love her design style. I’d love to know the way she thinks and works.

What’s on your iPod?
Mostly bollywood but it keeps changing according to my mood.

What’s your Twitter Handle?
I’m not active on Twitter. But it’s @etigoel.
