Taxi Founder Leaves the Agency World After 25 Years

Co-founder Paul Lavoie is leaving Taxi at the end of the year.

Lavoie and partner Jane Hope founded Taxi in Montreal in 1992. WPP later acquired the agency in late 2010.

“TAXI has been much more than an agency. It has been home,” says Lavoie said in a statement. “Thank you to everyone who brought their passion and skill to TAXI over the years. I am grateful to the industry for the curious, interesting, and talented individuals I met, and the exciting creative challenges we solved together.”

At the beginning of the year Lavoie moved into a role as chairman emeritus, as Reid Miller was promoted to chief creative officer. Taxi also promoted Jeff MacEachern and Jordan Doucette to roles as co-CCOs of its Toronto headquarters at the time.

Lavoie is moving client-side with his new venture, Beau Lake, for which he serves as a co-founder and leads brand vision.

“I’m practicing what I preached about brand building for all these yearsm” Lavoie added. “But I’m also saying some things I thought I never would. Like make the logo bigger! To TAXI, to my good friend and astute CEO, Rob Guenette and the Y&R/WPP crew, I wish the very best.”

“On behalf of everyone at TAXI, a big thank you to Paul, and wishing him huge success with Beau Lake” Taxi CEO Rob Guenette said in a statement. “Personally, I can’t express enough the lasting contribution Paul has made to our business, and the industry. Watching my friend continue his creative journey is truly inspiring.”

Lavoie moved into a chairman emeritus role last year with the promotion of Reid Miller to chief creative officer.

NBC's Meeting of Ad Industry Minds Begs the Question, What Now?

If there’s been a theme in the TV industry this year, it’s been unifying to face threats such as digital competitors and lost audiences. That continued Tuesday morning with an unusual meeting that opened the tent to include the same digital rivals that are giving TV so much trouble.

For three hours at the Pool restaurant in Manhattan, a space previously occupied by the Four Seasons, NBC Universal convened some of the top leaders in media, marketing and digital, including Irwin Gottlieb, chairman of WPP’s powerful GroupM ad buying network; David Levy, president of Turner, which owns cable networks including TBS and CNN; and Carolyn Everson, VP of global marketing solutions at Facebook. Representatives of Google, Twitter and Snap were also on-hand, as well as executives from big TV advertisers such as McDonald’s, Target and Unilever.

“We have a problem,” Linda Yaccarino, chairman of advertising sales and client partnerships at NBCU said during her opening remarks. “You know it, I know it, we all know it.”

How P&G's Pritchard Helped Fuel TAG's Fight Against Ad Fraud

The Trustworthy Accountability Group, an industry watchdog primarily focused on fighting ad fraud, said Tuesday that the number of companies to have received its “Certified Against Fraud” seal has more than doubled since April, with 26 companies added since then.

The news comes roughly one year after Marc Pritchard, chief brand officer at Procter & Gamble, said his company would require “any entity touching digital media” to go through TAG’s Certified Against Fraud programor risk losing P&G business. P&G is regarded as the world’s largest advertiser, spending some $4 billion each year.

“No question, when Marc Pritchard made his call to action it created an incredible amount of momentum around TAG,” says Mike Zaneis CEO at TAG. “There’s a saying on putting your money where your mouth is and in this case, it was billions of dollars.”
