Pandora Taps Oracle to Track Effectiveness of Ads

Pandora, the internet radio company with 76 million monthly users, is tapping Oracle to track the effectiveness of its audio ads, a move that follows the lead of social media platforms like Snap and Facebook.

Using Oracle Data Cloud, which anonymously IDs buyers and tracks offline sales, Pandora will attempt to answer the question marketers have asked since the dawn of radio: How does the ad you hear determine the product you buy?

The internet radio company hopes to connect the dots between targeted ads and actual purchases made. 'I Have a Huge Idea:' Wyclef Jean Wants to Work With Brands

Wyclef Jean showed at Cannes he’s about as friendly toward marketing as a musician can get. Besides serving on the Entertainment Lions for Music jury, he appeared on a panel about the business side of music alongside FCB Global Chief Creative Officer Susan Credle and executives of his label Heads Music and Shazam, which created an augmented-reality promotion around his new album.

Cannes wants to be careful not to become “the Cannes Music Festival,” Jean said in an interview, but organizers didn’t balk at him performing a brief set at the end of his panel, including an original composition mentioning the Festival of Creativity.

The co-founder or Fugees acknowledged the pivotal role business-side influences have played in his career, including resurrecting a song originally created for the movie “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights” as “Hips Don’t Lie” with Shakira, one of the best selling singles of the 21st century. And he hinted at aspirations around original compositions for brands.

Between Halo Top and Yasso, Frozen Treats Are Hot

“We’re at least trying to be funny, a little more light-hearted,” Woolverton said of the campaign, its first content beyond social media outreach such as pictures of ice cream, which Woolverton shot himself when the brand got its start. Two ads begin airing Thursday, with two more to follow in July.

Halo Top will still rely on Instagram, Facebook, and other platforms. But running ads on digital video players including YouTube may help it attract shoppers who don’t follow the brand, including those who are not as calorie conscious. Halo Top is working with programmatic agencies to expand its reach.

Woolverton declined to share details on any new flavors or products, citing the competition. “We just have so many copycats out there,” he said. “It’s flattering, but we have companies that don’t even try to hide that they’re just completely a Halo Top clone.”
