BATAVIA, Ohio (AdAge.com) — Procter & Gamble is branching into dry cleaning, fashion and more as it looks to innovate in new areas amid an economic downturn and changing consumer demands regarding laundry. Among other efforts, P&G is launching a full-scale test of its Swash youth-focused sub-brand in Lexington, Ky., and has enlisted Tim Gunn of "Project Runway" to provide style tips online.

Posted in: UncategorizedWord of the Day: Prewards
Posted in: UncategorizedMarketing to digital natives aged 12 to 26 is a tough task for the Gen X (and older) crowd, for Millennials have built up a heretofore unseen immunity to typical marketing come ons.
But Millennials are not perfectly immune. According to BusinessWeek, a marketer simply needs to speak their language. And thanks to efforts by Edo Interactive, a Nashville-based firm, brands like Jersey Mikes sub chain are learning the lingo.
Edo created what amounts to a fiscal Facebook: After applicants create profiles on Facecard.com, they get a Mastercard in the mail that allows them to borrow, lend, or give away money to buddies electronically. For a fee, retailers can send them “prewards,” small denominations of instant store credit, based on their age, location, and personal interests. Because the $2 to $3 gifts are redeemed via credit card, tracking is a breeze.
Jersey Mike’s sent “prewards” to 300 high school seniors, a group that is notoriously nonresponsive. But the gamble yielded an “overwhelming” 17% return rate, which is “way above” the numbers direct mailings produce.

Brands Spawn Labels
Posted in: UncategorizedI often find myself saying, “If you’re thinking it, someone else is doing it.”
According to Ad Age, that someone else is Pepsi.
Sprouting from its Green Label Art initiative, the Pepsi brand has launched a virtual record label dedicated to digital singles. Green Label Sound, as the nascent outlet is called, has lined up two artists so far, Chicago hip-hop group Cool Kids and boy-girl synth duo Matt and Kim.
So the CPG clients I work for won’t be first to market with this idea. That doesn’t mean the idea can’t be improved upon.

“People think it’s easy to work on Nike. But what we’ve learned is that provocative advertising is not sector specific.”
Want To Make Money? Go Digital.
Posted in: UncategorizedInc. magazine recently released its 27th annual Inc. 5000 – a roll call of the fastest growing private companies in the country by revenue. Huge names that we were once just big, (think: American Apparel, Zappos, GoDaddy) were just numbers on the list. Lets take a look at who from the advertising world made it into the top 500 this year:
#36 – Adbrite
AdBrite is like Ebay offering buyers a place bid on online advertising.
#125 – iCrossing
With its 620 employees and a new CEO (Don Scales), the shop has seen an astounding 1,661.5% growth.
#196 – Wexley School For Girls
Um, sorry, but did you know that Wexley has 7,000 sq. ft. building, that has a grand piano, a miniature golf course and a 1973 Prowler RV meeting room?
There were other marketing, media buying and online advertising companies listed, but other than Wexley and some design shops, the list was devoid of traditional companies. Almost all of the shops listed under advertising and marketing were interactive specific. Not one traditional advertising agency on this list. Not one.
If you’re going to slam the door on your shop and start fresh with your own little advertising company, think twice. Think digital.
