Prasad Kelkar is a Mumbai based Illustrator, Motion Designer and Art Director.
After graduating from Sir. J.J. Institute of Applied Arts(2004) he worked as an illustrator with TATA Interactive Systems. He currently leads the Motion team at TAG Vinnatti, a Design and Branding firm. He has also collaborated with different agencies like LOWE Lintas, Digi Law & Kenneth, Brand Movers, Mindbird for various clients like Thomas Cook, Oakley, Surf Excel, MTS, Axis Bank, Union Bank, Tupperware, Godrej, Lodha, HOH to name a few.
Why are you into Motion graphics?
I like Motion graphics because it allows me to tell stories in different styles, mediums and materials. There is no fixed production pipeline, each motion project comes with a unique challenge and that pushes you to learn new things. Because of motion graphics I started gaining serious interest in photography, cinematography and music.
Did you attend school for fine art or design or Communications?
Yes, I did my graduation from Sir J.J.School of App.Art (2000-04)
Tell us about your awards?
I have won few awards in college and in 2009 for DOCOMO online competition, but the real Award journey has just started, hopefully it will continue for long 
I recently designed and directed one Logo animation for renowned actress Anushka Sharma’s Film Production company called Clean Slate Films. She wanted an identity that captured the essence of her philosophy every movie she made would begin from a “clean slate”. This corporate Identity and logo animation bagged 3 Afaqs Foxglove Awards and a Kyoorious Designyatra Baby Elephant as an inbook winner.
Were there any particular role models for you when you grew up?
Master blaster “Sachin Tendulkar”
Who was the most influential personality on your career in Motion graphics?
Mate Steinforth, Danny Yount, Kyle Cooper, Patrick Baron, Brian Gossett, ESuresh… the list is very Long and couple of studios actually, whose work I used to follow. Psyop, Blind, Lumbre, Lobo, Capacity, Sehsucht to name a few.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Anything that tells me an interesting story or a unique visual treatment excites me.
Tell us something about your current place’s work environment.
TAG Vinnatti is a very good place for people who are hungry and passionate for work.
Since last decade TAG Vinnatti has produced projects from conception to reality with award-winning design that engenders surprise and exceeds clients expectations.
What do you think of the state of Motion graphics in INDIA right now?
Motion graphics is relatively new in India. There are very few studios/Individuals who are doing really good work in Motion graphics, but it is changing with time. Ever-changing Market, new technology and different digital platforms opening many doors for Indian motion designers.
What advice do you have for aspiring creative professionals?
Never be satisfied with your work.
What’s your dream project?
Any project which will push me to go beyond my capabilities, especially in motion graphics.
Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
Never thought of it actually… but I want to enjoy my work till the day I can hold my stylus and pencil in my hand.
Who would you like to take out for dinner?
PAT BARON I guess, I just love his work, specially Dumb ways to die campaign which has really blown my mind.
What’s on your iPod?
I like to listen to Dub step and Electronic.
Mac or PC?
For designing and Illustrating I use MAC but for Animation I prefer PC
