Jaspreet Singh : Graphic Design

Jaspreet is a visual designer, a paper craft-artist and a metaphysical enthusiast from New Delhi. He focuses on innovation by merging different thoughts and principles to come up with his own conception. His works present the elements of connection and simplicity, which is present within everyone.

Why are you a Graphic Designer?
I love visual storytelling and graphic design works as a great tool for this form of communication.

Did you attend school for fine art or design?
Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology in Bangalore, India

You have a distinct style of Design. How long did it take you to develop your style?
It takes time for anyone to develop their style, till then it’s a fun journey of exploration and experiments.

How did you focus so much on graphic illustrations? When did you realise you loved doing it and wanted more of it?
I have always connected more with visual work over textual. This is how I process information and use it as a medium to communicate my stories.

Were there any particular role models for you when you grew up?
I get the artistic side of my mother. During college, I became an active learner through the guidance of my mentors at Srishti. I then applied these learnings in different areas, whether it was working in a studio or as a freelancer and gained insights and maturity on the subject of Design.

Who was the most influential personality on your career in graphic design?
There is no one person, as I like to pick up nuances from various artists and people from different fields and I also enjoy observing their problem-solving process. I focus more on general learnings which I then apply to different areas, like graphic design.

When did you start freelancing?
I have shuffled between jobs and freelancing since I graduated from college in 2012. I now run Studio Snow Show as the founder (stay tuned for its website launch in March 2021).

Was there any time when you wanted to quit graphic design?
Nope. Even if I was in a different field, I would still keep a good understanding of design as it has the ability to connect to different kinds of work and help enhance it, and bring a fresh perspective to it.

Are many advertising agencies hiring graphic designers? Do you work more with agencies or publishers or direct clients?
I don’t follow a certain pattern as my focus is more towards providing design solutions, or having a desire to work on a certain kind of project. Every project that I have been involved in has had an important self-learning. This is how I keep fine-tuning myself as a person as well as my professional skills.
A lot of the times, clients connect with a certain designer or studio’s thought-process, which makes them want to approach you and work with you – they just somehow find you ? I’ve had the opportunity to work with different kinds of clients and this has really helped me gain a wider perspective of people and businesses.

Do you have clients who give you steady work or do you advertise for new clients often?
A mix of both.

Any other Indian graphic designers who you admire?
I like different elements from many designers and artists. Graphic design in India is really picking up the pace and its great to be part of this era.

What advice do you have for aspiring creative professionals? Would you advise them to take on graphic design as a career option?
Have an impersonal goal. Focus on the greater vision when you take up projects, rather than your own self. You can ask yourself this question before taking on any project – “Am ‘I’ going to benefit from it?” or “This app on home-cooked food delivery will help many small businesses during the pandemic job crunch”.

Do you think Clients are opening up to keeping aside a decent respectable budget for design work? Do you think clients are understanding that they need to invest in Design as a communication tool and also to cut the clutter, and that good design comes at a price?
Seems so ?

Mac or PC?
Mac.
