Shalmor Avnon Amichay / Y&R shortlisted at the Clio Awards

Imagine a car brand asking its customers to drive its car less so as not to pollute the environment. Or a chocolate brand asking its consumers to refrain from eating their product before going to bed…sounds crazy right?
Well that is exactly what our cellular client did when it appealed to its subscribers to refrain from sending text messages when driving. This did not only go against common sense, but against the company’s obvious financial interests as well. This generated an unusual and innovative message in the advertising landscape so you’ll understand why the judges at the Clio chose the orange ad, as the only ad in the telecommunications category to be shortlisted in the competition and featured in the Festival’s exhibition.

A gold Clio went to the “Missing Soldiers” project – The internet shut down

Brief:
On July 12th 2006 – Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev were abducted by the Hezbolla. Since their kidnapping no news about them has been received.
To keep their issue a top priority on the public’s and the government’s agenda, we knew we had to create an impact no one could stay indifferent to.
A unique remembrance action! We invited major sites to stop their activity for five minutes, precisely one year after the kidnap, and place one same message:
“The soldiers cannot be found”. This is a variation of “The Page cannot be found” message appearing when loading an inactive website.

Wrath of Cannes 2008

You might remember this from last year when, to honor those who couldn’t make it to Cannes, NY-based indie Woods Witt Dealy & Sons created the Wrath of Cannes website with the tagline, “Those who can go to Cannes. Those who can’t go to Coney.”

Well, this summer WWD&S is taking the Wrath of Cannes to new and freakish heights. The agency is actually putting together a real live awards show to take place on Coney Island (at Cha Cha’s Club Atlantis) during Cannes on June 19 (see attached flyer and trophy).

Visit the wrathofcannes.com for more details. The show is targeting juniors (in all disciplines, not just creative) with two years paid experience or less.

One Show Student winners on “Doritos” live brief.

The print category received 376 entries. A Gold Pencil was awarded to art director/writer duo Elliot Nordstrom and Phil Van Buren of the University of Colorado for their campaign titled “There is Only One” which artfully featured the unique Doritos chip as the standout in a sea of generic potatoes chips, tortilla chips and crackers.

Other highlights of the show include a Gold Pencil awarded in the Interactive category to art director Thomas Jonsson and writer Cark Fredrik Jannerfeldt of Berghs School of Communication, Stockholm for “We don’t like banners,” an innovative computer plug-in program that would detect where advertising banners are placed and override them with your own personalized content. The tag line reads: “What if the Internet was just like a bag of Doritos. Filled only with the stuff you like.”

McCann Worldgroup and T.A.G. in San Francisco continued their winning streak last night, grabbing the best of show honors at The One Show for the “Believe” spot. Just a week ago the 2008 International Andy Awards bestowed its top honor, the Grandy, upon the Microsoft XBox’s Halo 3 “Believe” campaign. You may now place your bets on how far this ad will go at the Cannes Lions Festival this summer. I say “far” but not Grand Prix, what say you?

Military Stories

At the festival Mena Cristal Awards 2008 the agency Leo Burnett Beirut won Corporate Cristal for the commercial “Tribute to the Lebanesse Army”:

Hmmm, nice commercial, but we still remember the “Thank you !” by Budweiser

JWT Sydney hijacks the Andy awards, sort of.

What starts as a rather droll pep talk for the Andy award judges ends up being hijacked by some strange terrorist org that speaks only in super OZ slang of so thick it needs to be subtitled and then turns into a song about “you’re ad wankers who are stuck inside”. Verbal abuse is funny as hell when done right. I wish I could set the entire one gigabyte film out for free but ouch, bandwith bills you know so I crunched it down to 20 MB’s and posted it for super adgrunts.

Super adgrunts, enjoy the Hijacked Andy Award song here in the commercial archive.
